Rasmus Kristensen transfer detail emerges as medical is scheduled for Leeds United exit

Eintracht Frankfurt are not obligated to purchase Leeds United right-back Rasmus Kristensen, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via X (19 July) that the 27-year-old will undergo his medical with Frankfurt on Friday 19 July.

Kristensen will join the club on a one-year loan deal with the Bundesliga side possessing the option, not an obligation, to purchase the defender for £12.6million.

This is yet another positive move for the Whites.

Kristensen spent last season on loan with AS Roma in Italy, with Daniel Farke’s side proving rather convincingly that the defender is not needed at Elland Road.

They were able to reach the EFL Championship play-off final without him. Therefore, they will have every confidence that they can achieve something similar, if not greater, this season.

As a result of failing to reach the Premier League, cost-cutting was always going to be in order at Elland Road.

And clearing another high-earner off the books for the season is a fantastic way to do just that.

It is hard to imagine Leeds will be too concerned about the option-to-buy clause either. If Kristensen does well in Germany, Frankfurt could look to take the option up anyway.

And if he doesn’t, the Whites will hope to be in the Premier League when Kristensen returns to the club and would therefore be in a better position financially to reassess the situation then.
