Leeds United won't be getting a loan fee from defender Rasmus Kristensen's temporary move to Eintracht Frankfurt, according to Kicker.

The German outlet reported on 19 July that while the Bundesliga club have a £12.6million option-to-buy as part of Kristensen's loan contract, the initial move doesn't include any obligation to pay a loan fee in the small print details.

Kristensen spent the previous campaign on loan at Roma having activated a clause in his contract following United's relegation, and has departed once more after the Whites failed to achieve promotion [Florian Plettenberg, 19 July].

The 27-year-old was included in Denmark's squad at Euro 2024 but didn't feature, and will join up with another ex-United loanee in Robin Koch, who Frankfurt did choose to sign permanently, next season.

Leeds United will hope for permanent Rasmus Kristensen transfer

Having bought Kristensen for £10m in 2022 [Sky Sports], the Whites collecting a roughly £2.6m profit on a player who never convinced at Elland Road could prove to be a masterstroke on their part.

However, given that the Dane's loan side last season, Roma, didn't entertain the prospect of keeping him permanently, he could be heading back to LS11 once again at the culmination of the coming campaign.

Had United insisted upon an obligation, rather than option, for Frankfurt to buy the right-back, they may have been happy to miss out on a loan fee and looked ahead to a permanent sale in 12 months' time.

But should Kristensen's loan spell in the Bundesliga have the same success rate as his singular seasons in the Premier League and Serie A, the signs aren't exactly promising for the 27-year-old.

While Leeds fans may be pleased that Kristensen is out of sight and out of mind once again, having no financial recompense as a result could prove to be costly, particularly with so little depth at right-back and Jayden Bogle set to cost north of £5million [Alan Nixon, 14 July].
