Rasmus Kristensen decision made at Roma with Leeds United defender’s loan set to end

Rasmus Kristen is on his way back to Leeds United this summer and will not be kept on at Roma, according to Il Messaggero.

The Italian outlet reported via their website on 10 May that the Danish defender is one of a number of departures expected from the Stadium Olimpico as Daniele De Rossi’s side look set to be remodelled in the summer.

Kristensen, 26, has missed the entirety of Roma’s European campaign this season but has made 29 total appearances domestically in a combinations of positions across the back line and on the right of midfield.

Daniel Farke set to receive defender back at Leeds United

Full-back is an area of the squad back at Elland Road that seems sure to receive some attention in the summer whether Daniel Farke is successful in guiding the Whites through the play-offs or not.

Kristensen was reportedly so eager to get out of Leeds United that he paid for his own flight to Rome last summer so his return to West Yorkshire might not be universally popular.

And if the club do return to the Premier League he quite possibly won’t be seen as a huge asset in light of an inconsistent debut season in England as Leeds were relegated.

Having arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of £10million [Sky Sports] as part of Victor Orta’s plan to furnish then-boss Jesse Marsch with players from his former clubs he is far from the most expensive of the failed transfer haul from two years ago.

And after rebounding from a difficult start to the season in Serie A under Jose Mourinho Kristensen has been a regular contributor so might have convinced a third party to move for him and make the club some of that money back.

Connor Roberts’ loan was sealed in January to address a light right-back spot that has frequently been occupied by midfielder Archie Gray this term, but the Burnley man’s time at the club was disrupted by injury at the crucial point as the team’s form fell apart so whether his desired permanent stay materialises remains to be seen.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could be nine figures over a new squad cost limit system if promoted.
