Leeds United want to sign a new striker next summer as a twist has emerged in their transfer pursuit of Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund has been linked with Daniel Farke's team as they are keeping tabs on the Denmark international [On The Minute].

Joel Piroe has been relied on by the Whites to find the back of the net this season consistently, but the Dutch national doesn't seem to have an appropriate backup in the squad with Mateo Joseph proving hit-and-miss.

It was reported Hojlund could move to Elland Road on loan as the Peacocks wouldn't be able to spend big on the 22-year-old [Leeds Live].

Leeds United not pursuing Rasmus Hojlund transfer

A move for the Danish striker is not on the cards at the West Yorkshire club, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reports (19 February) that the Whites aren't planning a summer transfer for the former Atalanta forward but are keen on reinforcing the number nine position.

It has been claimed that Hojlund's wages and fees would be too high for the Peacocks to pursue his signing.

Leeds United haven't made an approach for the centre-forward, and there are no suggestions that Man United are open to a sale.

Daniel Farke needs a new striker

Patrick Bamford's time at Elland Road seems to be over after suffering multiple injury issues over the years.

The 31-year-old has been a loyal servant for the Whites, but it feels like the right time to part ways with him.

Farke has preferred other options in his attack, with the Englishman starting zero games for the Peacocks in the Championship this season.

Piroe has been the first choice number nine at the West Yorkshire club, while Joseph is also available at Elland Road, providing decent squad depth.

At first glance, Hojlund could be an excellent addition at the Whites, but his record at Man United has been underwhelming this season.

In 32 appearances in the current campaign, the Danish national has scored seven goals, but his performances in the Premier League have been below par.

Rasmus Hojlund has not scored a lot in the Premier League this season.

While the 22-year-old wouldn't want to move to a Championship outfit, Farke has the Peacocks on course to the English top flight.

The West Yorkshire club are one of the favourites to win promotion this season, evidently making Elland Road a more attractive option for the likes of Hojlund.
