Raphinha reacts as Leeds United agree new transfer, Georginio Rutter arrives for £35.5million
Raphinha has congratulated Georginio Rutter for completing his move to Leeds United after the striker joined in a club-record deal from Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Sky Sports reported on 14 January that Leeds signed Rutter, 20, after agreeing a £35.5million deal with Hoffenheim, making the French striker the most-expensive player in Elland Road history after Rodrigo joined from Valencia in 2020 for £27million.
Rutter took to Instagram as he was officially announced as Leeds’ newest player, saying he’s “happy to join” the Whites and “is excited to play in such a great club”.
No current Leeds players have replied to the post.
However, Barcelona’s ex-Elland Road favourite Raphinha did, sending a message to Rutter saying: “Congratulations brother. Enjoy this amazing club and this amazing city.”
He loves Leeds
It’s great to know that Raphinha is obsessing over Leeds transfer news.
We’re sure that he’s got notifications turned on for Phil Hay’s tweets and is constantly barracking Fabrizio Romano for the latest on the Whites’ pursuit of new signings.
Rutter looks like a good young player.
While his goalscoring record isn’t mindblowing, he’s a young striker who can also play out wide.
Rutter’s known for his dribbling and ability to be involved in build-up play, which is why he’d been compared to Roberto Firmino by Phil Hay earlier this week [The Athletic].
Firmino also burst onto the scene in Europe at Hoffenheim so it’s clearly a good place to find strikers. Newcastle’s Joelinton is also in a similar boat.
We hope Rutter is a success.
Leeds need this striker signing to work out because the relegation zone is dangerously close right now and we’re in desperate need of goals.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now seeking their third signing of the month with a European contract rebel in their sights.
