Premier League clubs make enquiries for George Hall as Leeds United lead race for his signature

Premier League clubs have made enquiries for Birmingham City midfielder George Hall, with Leeds United leading the race for his signature say the Daily Mail.

The Whites have been long term admirers of the England Under-19 international and scouted him back in October as the Blues earned a 3-0 win over Hull City, but he has played just once since.

That lack of game time, plus the status of the cash-strapped Midlands club has led to enquiries from several clubs over a potential January deal and the response of the Birmingham hierarchy has only strengthened that interest.

According to the report [6 November], it’s Jesse Marsch’s Leeds side who are at the “front of the pack” for his signature and there is confidence a deal could be struck during the January transfer window.

Light

Leeds are light on options in midfield this season, so the arrival of Hall would certainly fit in with the weaknesses in the squad.

However whether such a talented youngster would be able to come into the first-team picture in the Premier League immediately or not is another question entirely and something that would have to be figured out before a deal was done.

Sam Greenwood, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Mateusz Klich are the first-team options so far this season, while Darko Gyabi has impressed with the academy team since his arrival from Manchester City in the summer too.

With other Premier League clubs clearly showing their interest in the player too, Leeds may need to move quickly to get a deal done and ahead of the rest of the pack they may need to be able to offer regular first-team football.

Without that, there’s a chance he prefers to go elsewhere to continue his development and continue to shine.

If Leeds want to get a deal done they’ve been given fair warning that there is lots of competition and they know what they need to do.

The board has been very good at bringing in excellent young talent in recent years, and this would be a real feather in the cap if they can get this done too.
