Plymouth Argyle want to sign Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt in January
Plymouth Argyle are interested in a January loan deal for Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt and have already asked about his availability, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist shared via his Patreon page [9 January] that Plymouth have a good chance of securing the loan deal as they will not prove a threat to Leeds’ Championship promotion bid.
Nixon also reported that, as Leeds pay Gelhardt a large wage packet, they would have to pay a percentage to sponsor his loan move to Argyle.

The deal would make sense
A loan move for Gelhardt to a Championship club where he would be guaranteed minutes as the main man up front could be the best option for all parties in this situation.
According to The Athletic [21 December], Gelhardt is keen on a loan move in the transfer window, and while Leeds were initially reluctant to see him leave, Nixon’s report shares that they have a chance of securing the deal.
Nixon suggests that, despite bigger clubs also expressing an interest in a loan move for Gelhardt, Leeds are more likely to send him on loan to Plymouth as they won’t provide a threat to their playoff bid.
The promise of game time could be the deciding factor for the attacker who has been on the fringes of Daniel Farke’s squad with just six league appearances so far this season.

Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic have also been linked with loan moves for the striker, and would likely have more financial muscle to contribute towards his wages, but Plymouth appear to have emerged as a serious candidate for his signature already.
