Player skips training today, spotted with large bag amid advanced Leeds talks – reports
Leeds United are in advanced talks to sign Valencia striker Rodrigo, according to Goal.
The news website reports that Leeds officials have flown to Spain to thrash out a deal for the 29-year-old forward with the Whites set to offer £27million plus add-ons for his services.
Spanish newspaper Las Provincias has added further interesting details on Rodrigo’s potential switch to Elland Road as the player reportedly skipped training today (Tuesday) as a “precaution”.
It is understood that Rodrigo was spotted leaving Valencia’s Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna training ground with a “large bag” amid the increased speculation surrounding his future at the Mestalla.
Las Provincias does add some potentially worrying news for Leeds fans as they go on to report that Valencia are also holding out for higher offers for Rodrigo, with Atletico Madrid also said to be keen on the Spain international.
Leeds need a new striker before the start of next season because, as it stands, Patrick Bamford is the only out-and-out centre-forward in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad.
Rodrigo has plenty of top-flight experience from his spell at Valencia, where he has also played in Europe and earned caps for Spain.
He has played in the Premier League before when he spent the 2010/11 season on loan at Bolton from Benfica but didn’t really impress in that spell.
However, that was 10 years ago now and the player who was on loan at Bolton is not the player who Leeds appear to be on the verge of signing.
This news about him possibly packing his bags suggests he might have already said his goodbyes to everyone at Valencia.
In other Leeds United news, this striker is on the verge of leaving Leeds on loan.
