Phil Hay suggests Leeds still want to sign Euro centre-mid involved in 12 goals in 2019

Marcelo Bielsa may have said that Leeds United have completed their business for the January transfer window but it seems as though one player may still be on the Whites’ radar.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported last week that Stabaek midfielder Emil Bohinen was wanted by Leeds amid their drawn-out pursuit of Ian Poveda.

Leeds took their time to secure a deal for Poveda after he also attracted interest from continental Europe and Bohinen emerged as a target in that time as he, like Poveda, can play on the wing.

However, a recent tweet by The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has suggested that Leeds still want to sign Bohinen from Stabaek despite them eventually completing the deal to sign Poveda.

It seems as though Leeds’ interest in the Norway Under-21 international was a completely different matter to Poveda and the 19-year-old remains a target to add to the Under-23s squad.

While Bohinen can play out on the wing, he spent more time as a central midfielder for Stabaek in the 2019 season [transfermarkt].

He made 31 appearances in all competitions for Stabaek last year, scoring four goals and supplying eight assists in the process before attracting attention from Leeds.

Bielsa may have said that Leeds are not signing any more players before the end of the month – but was he simply referring to the first-team?

As we all know very well, Victor Orta loves signing players from abroad to add to the Under-23s squad at Thorp Arch.

This news about Bohinen suggests he may well be someone the Whites want to sign before the 11pm deadline on Friday or, if not, maybe in the summer.

In other Leeds United news, Rangers want to sign this 23-year-old player from Leeds.
