Phil Hay shares what Angus Kinnear said about Leeds ‘advantage’ in Ben White pursuit
Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has revealed that the club has been handed an “advantage” in their pursuit of Ben White.
White, 22, has been in phenomenal form while on loan at Elland Road this season and there is no doubt that everyone involved with Leeds wants to see the defender signed for at least another year.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has spoken to Kinnear about a potential permanent deal for White.
While Kinnear admits that Brighton hold all the cards and other clubs are bound to be interested in the centre-back, Leeds might have an advantage due to his experience in West Yorkshire.
Hay reported what Kinnear told him via his personal Twitter account on Saturday, shortly after Leeds were confirmed as Championship champions.
There is no denying that we all want to see White sign for Leeds permanently over the summer.
However one of the big issues about that is that Brighton are fully aware of it.
After a less-than-impressive season in the Premier League, there’s every chance that the south coast club will try and keep hold of White so he can strengthen their defence.
If not, they are bound to sell him to the highest bidder.
Leeds may have certain advantages in the pursuit of White but they don’t have the biggest advantage of them all – money.
It remains to be seen what kind of transfer budget Leeds will have to spend in the summer but we doubt that it will be something colossal.
Winning promotion has raised new questions about White’s future but ultimately, not much has changed.
