Phil Hay shares update on Leeds pursuit of 17-goal ace with reported bid ready

Hull City are unlikely to agree to let Jarrod Bowen join Leeds United on loan this month, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

The Sun reported earlier this week that Leeds were ready to table a loan-to-buy bid for Bowen, 23, that would be worth up to £15million if they are promoted this season.

It is understood that the Whites were willing to offer a £3million loan fee to sign Bowen for the rest of the season before having the obligation to sign him permanently upon promotion for a further £12million.

However former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay has discovered that Hull are not going to consider a deal like that to bolster the promotion bid of one of their Yorkshire rivals.

“Leeds like him but having asked at the Hull end, it doesn’t sound like they’d contemplate the sort of deal Leeds would be offering – loan with obligation to buy,” Hay said on The Athletic website on Saturday.

“Imagine being Hull’s owners and trying to explain to their fanbase that you’d loaned Leeds their best players as Leeds try to get promoted.”

Bowen would be a superb signing for Leeds this month but the chances of them getting a deal done seem very remote.

The Hull attacker is already Premier League quality so if he was going to quit the KCOM Stadium, the chances are that he will head straight into the top-flight.

Bowen has scored 17 goals and supplied five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions for Hull this season and Leeds could do with someone to add more firepower to their side.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at QPR summed up how badly Marcelo Bielsa needs to strengthen his squad before the January window closes and Bowen would be perfect.

However it seems as though he is only going to head to Elland Road if the Whites change the way they are trying to sign him.
