Phil Hay shares positions Leeds want to sign this summer

Leeds want to sign a striker and two full-backs and are expected to make a fresh bid for Brenden Aaronson this summer, according to Phil Hay.

The Whites are in the heat of a relegation battle right now after a poor season but have opened up a seven point gap over the bottom three following back-to-back injury time wins.

As they edge closer to survival, eyes have turned to the summer transfer window and The Athletic believe that the club have targeted three main positions to bolster their squad.

According to Hay, a striker has become the “first port of call for recruitment” after injury concerns surrounding Patrick Bamford.

The club are also looking at new full-backs on both sides of the pitch after Junior Firpo failed to impress in his first season, while cover for Luke Ayling is needed.

Jesse Marsch is also expected to continue the club’s interest in fellow countryman Brenden Aaronson, with a fresh bid anticipated.

Planning

Leeds will be looking to bolster their squad regardless of whether they get relegated or maintain their Premier League status.

But obviously with top flight status, their targets become higher quality and easier to attain. Other than Aaronson there are no names mentioned as to who the targets could be, but positions are a good start.

It shows forward planning on the club’s side to have targets reportedly set regardless of what happens, but also shows trust in the current project to deliver eventually.

The positions are seemingly the right one too. A striker has been a huge miss this season in the absence of Bamford, with a real lack of goal threat in the side.

Aaronson provides great depth in attacking roles and adds quality, while cover for Ayling and a new left-back should be absolute priorities too. It’s good on paper, now Victor Orta must deliver.
