Phil Hay shares January update on Leeds pursuit of £20m-valued ace

Leeds United are unlikely to make any kind of move for Hull City star Jarrod Bowen in the January transfer window, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

The former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter has claimed via The Athletic website that while Leeds do hold an interest in the 22-year-old attacker, the Whites do not possess the finances to be able to pull off such a deal.

It is understood that Hull value Bowen at £20million, which is a fair price considering his age and the fact he is English and scored 17 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season for the Humberside club.

Hay reports that Championship leaders West Brom are plotting an audacious move to sign the Tigers’ forward, who is also attracting interest from Premier League side Newcastle.

That interest from the top-flight is likely to halt the Baggies’ efforts of signing Bowen, but they are reportedly trying nonetheless.

As for Leeds, it seems as though there is next to no chance of the Yorkshire club making a raid on Hull for their highly-coveted attacker.

It’s hardly a surprise.

Marcelo Bielsa is said to be a fan of Bowen but the Leeds manager is also someone who has shown a great deal of faith in the players he has.

Financial Fair Play is also an aspect that could stop the Whites doing much business in January but if the club was to win promotion this season and Bowen is still available next summer then maybe he is someone who could be on Bielsa’s radar once again.

In other Leeds United news, fans have hailed this player for his latest performance for the Under-23s.
