Phil Hay reacts as Leeds United wrap up multi-million new signing
Phil Hay believes that Leeds United have received a huge boost in their promotion push after completing the signing of Jayden Bogle.
This past weekend, Leeds United signed Jayden Boyle from Sheffield United for a fee of £5 million (Danny Hall, 20 July).
During a recent opinion piece (The Athletic, 22 July), Phil Hay made it clear that he’s confident Leeds have made the right move.
“And finally, a transfer from the Championship. Leeds United have paid Sheffield United £5m for Jayden Bogle. It gives them as good a right-back as you’ll find in England’s second tier, and it enhances their strong chances of promotion.”
Leeds United pursue greatness
Following the heartbreak of their play-off final defeat last season, Leeds United had to make changes – and that’s exactly what they’ve done. They’ve already raised over £70 million from the sale of players like Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Luis Sinisterra, and now, they can think about reinvesting for the future.

Boyle is a player who possesses two years of Premier League experience alongside four years of high-level Championship football. There will be fans of other sides who believe he should’ve opted to sign for a top-flight club but as he prepares to turn 24, there’s plenty of time left for him to work his way back there.
Right now, many pundits and bookmakers see Leeds as the favourites to win the league. While you can’t sign off on that before the season is even underway, they certainly have the time and money to make even more of an impact in the transfer market this summer.
