Phil Hay: Leeds want to pay off contract of 26y/o, profit & sustainability stands in the way

Phil Hay has reported that Leeds United have completed their business – both in and out – for the January transfer window.

The Athletic journalist claimed via a deadline day live blog that Leeds have moved on pretty much every player who has been deemed surplus to requirements – except for Ouasim Bouy.

Bouy, 26, arrived at Elland Road in August 2017 in a free transfer deal following his release from Juventus.

However the Dutch midfielder has not made a single appearance for Leeds in two and a half years, being loaned out to Cultural Leonesa and PEC Zwolle in that time.

As Bouy’s spell as a Leeds player has been a complete and utter waste of time for both him and the club, Hay claims that the Yorkshire giants are trying to force the midfielder out of Elland Road.

Bouy has another 18 months remaining on his contract at Elland Road and it is understood that United want to pay off the deal so that he can leave.

However Hay claimed on The Athletic website on Friday that a contract pay-off would cause issues with Profit & Sustainability calculations.

Bouy needs to realise that, for the good of his career, he needs to leave Leeds.

He’s not even getting to train with the first-team, let alone get close to a matchday squad.

The midfielder’s career has stalled at Elland Road, so why not leave now and try to move elsewhere so he can at least play.
