Phil Hay: Bayern Munich not expected to be active in January amid Leeds United and Raphinha speculation
Bayern Munich are not expected to be busy in January despite speculation linking them with a move for Leeds United star Raphinha, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist reports that “sources in Germany” have told him that the upcoming transfer window is likely to be a quiet one for the Bundesliga giants.
On Christmas Eve, Brazilian news outlet TNT Sports reported that £42million-rated Raphinha, 25, will leave Elland Road for Bayern Munich next month.
With the January transfer window set to open in the coming days, Leeds fans can expect to see a host of silly rumours regarding players at the club.
We’d be shocked if Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta sanction the sale of any major players next month, especially with how depleted the squad currently looks.
Leeds have had an injury crisis for what seems like the entire season with key players such as Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford regularly missing games.
Selling Raphinha, the most available of Bielsa’s star men, next month would be a massive backwards step and really create more problems than it would solve.
Sure, bagging the money would be great – but do we need the cash that badly?
Leeds have recently been boosted by the 49ers increasing their stake in the Yorkshire club so we doubt that Orta and Bielsa’s budget will be that small.
We spent around £100million in the summer that proceeded promotion to the Premier League and while a lot was spent earlier this year on the likes of Daniel Jamies and Junior Firpo, there should still be a decent sum left in the bank to improve the squad without having to sell anyone.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could seal a deal for this goal machine in January if they make a “mad” offer.
