Patrick Bamford set for shock La Liga transfer after headline Leeds United exit

Patrick Bamford could be set to swap Yorkshire for Spain after the latest transfer update.

With Leeds battling against relegation in the Premier League, many have already forgotten about Bamford’s exit, which only happened last month.

Since then, the Englishman has been without a club, and at 32 years old, he will be well aware of the importance of his next move.

With that in mind, it looks as though he is closing in on that transfer, with news of a La Liga side being close to finalising a deal.

Getafe are ‘very close’ to Patrick Bamford agreement

Given the frailties showcased by Bamford over the last few years, many had earmarked him for a move to Wrexham, or even a club further down the English pyramid.

In fact, Bamford had been mooted for a controversial move to Sheffield United, not long before Matteo Moretto reported via X that a move to Getafe is now ‘very close’.

The Spanish outfit currently sit eighth in La Liga, having picked up three wins from their first five games of the campaign.

Bamford’s record at Leeds

Given the fact that Bamford has scored just 15 goals over the last three seasons, very few would have forecasted a move to the Spanish top flight, less than a month after being deemed surplus to requirements.

If this move goes through as expected, it will be a huge move for Bamford, who will be well aware of the need to make an immediate impression.

Patrick Bamford could be playing against Lamine Yamal and Raphinha

Raphinha’s success since leaving Leeds for La Liga has been incredible, though it would be a fair assumption to make that the same will not happen with Bamford.

However, for a move like that to come around for the Englishman is quite remarkable, and showcases the fact that his agent may be in line for a pay rise.

As poor as he was at Elland Road, many Leeds fans are still fond of Bamford and will actually like to see him do well elsewhere.

However, the main thing for him will be keeping fit; a similar situation which Leeds find themselves in with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
