Patrick Bamford reacts as Leeds United confirm Illan Meslier exit
Leeds United have finally confirmed the exit of Illan Meslier.
The Whites confirmed the news on Wednesday, but it was a long time coming for the French goalkeeper.
Daniel Farke dropped Meslier towards the end of the Championship title-winning year, replacing him with Karl Darlow.
Lucas Perri was then signed from Lyon before the Premier League kicked off, with the Brazilian becoming number one.
That didn't last long either, with Darlow stepping in again.
Both Darlow and Meslier were out of contract this month, but only the Welshman has been offered fresh terms.
Leeds United heroes past and present react to Illan Meslier exit
Despite not playing a single senior minute last season in all competitions, Meslier will be remembered.
After seven seasons and 215 appearances in LS11, Meslier leaves with the best wishes of everyone.
That included promotion to the Premier League under both Farke and Marcelo Bielsa, making countless memories.
Leeds confirmed Meslier's exit on Instagram, and it led to several reactions from past and present at Elland Road.
Current players like Joel Piroe, Willy Gnonto and Jayden Bogle liked the post, with others such as Patrick Bamford and Archie Gray doing the same.
Barry Douglas also commented, writing: "My big tall French pal ππ."
Headlines from Leeds United retained list
The only confirmed exit for now, is Meslier.
Sam Byram, Alex Cairns and Darlow were all also out of contract, but it has been revealed that they remain in discussions.
That could see all three remain, although Byram and Cairns will know they won't feature and are there for the dressing room and homegrown rules.
Darlow, on the other hand, must be tied down.
The Welshman isn't a massive name, but he was sensational in the second half of the Premier League season, pulling off countless number of brilliant saves.
Should he stay on, it could be enough for Leeds to remain with Darlow and Perri as their main two, with Cairns as third choice again.
It's not a critical area that needs strengthening for now, even with Meslier's exit, with other positions surely needing investment first.
As for Meslier, he goes with everyone's best wishes.
