'Pablo with a bit more pace', 'Excited' – Super Fans react as Leeds close in on another signing

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Leeds United Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Elland Road and Thorp Arch.

Leeds United are on the brink of their second signing of the January window.

Man City winger Ian Poveda has passed his medical and Phil Hay confirmed last night that it just left the paperwork to complete.

Poveda is expected to be announced officially as a Leeds player later on Friday.

Leeds fans might be desperate for a new striker but after young keeper Elia Caprile joined earlier in the month, signing Poveda would mean the club has completed two of the three deals they are looking to do this month.

Poveda was training with the Man City first team until December and has played 90 minutes for them in the EFL Cup.

Leeds stats site All Stats Aren’t We reckon that Poveda would be an upgrade on Jack Clarke, a player Leeds managed to offload for £9m to Spurs.

Whichever way you look at it, that’s good business and while Poveda might be an unknown quantity, we think there’s reason to be excited about him.

But do the Super Fans? Or have we reached the place now where only a striker signing will do? That’s what we asked them with a week left in the transfer window.

This is what they had to say…

Jonathan Fox (@foxy619)

Adam Elliott (@adam_elliott118)

The general consensus from the Super Fans is that they are excited about Poveda, with Adam Ross saying he reminds him of Pablo Hernandez with more pace – that’s a very good thing.

They also see the deal as really good business.

However, the issue of a new striker can’t be ignored and that’s the signing that everyone connected with Leeds wants to see.
