Leeds want to sign PL player worth up to £50m, major transfer deal could be achieved – report

Leeds United could strike an agreement with Wolves to sign winger Adama Traore if the Midlands club is willing to agree a structured deal, according to Eurosport.

The broadcaster claims that Traore, 24, is worth up to £50million and is considering leaving Molineux amid protracted negotiations over a new contract.

It is understood Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta, who was at Middlesbrough during Traore’s spell in the North-East, is driving the pursuit of the Spain international.

Wolves reportedly want a lot of money for Traore but journalist Dean Jones says: “It is thought a deal might become possible if Wolves are willing to consider staggered payments for the player.”

Absolutely no chance

If Wolves want up to £50million for Traore then you can forget about this one.

Leed spent over £100million on new players after winning promotion to the Premier League and when has Marcelo Bielsa ever been a fan of adding to his squad in January?

Mirror journalist David Anderson has recently reported that it’s “highly unlikely” Leeds will sign any first-team players this month unless he has to plug any gaps in his squad.

Traore is predominantly a right-sided winger and Leeds are well-stocked in that position with Raphinha, Helder Costa and Ian Poveda able to play there, as well as Stuart Dallas, Tyler Roberts and Pablo Hernandez if needs be.

Traore is reportedly eager to earn a call-up to the Spain squad for the European Championships this summer so why would he quit a club where he’s playing regularly to join one where he might not play at all?

Of course, his dragged-out contract talks must be frustrating but there’s nothing more frustrating than sitting on the bench every week and losing out on a spot in your national team’s squad.

Traore hasn’t been anywhere near as good this season as he was last term with zero goals and one assist to his name in 17 Premier League appearances in 2020/21.

It makes zero sense to sign him on a structured deal or any deal at all based on Wolves’ valuation of the ex-Aston Villa winger and Leeds’ lack of need for a new wide man.

In other Leeds United news, some rival fans are urging the Whites to sign this player because “Bielsa will make him a beast”.
