OIi McBurnie reacts as Leeds United agree terms for last-ditch Connor Roberts signing, names Pavel Nedved

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has reacted after Leeds United confirmed the Deadline Day signature of Connor Roberts.

The right-back has joined the Elland Road club from Burnley on loan until the end of the season [official Leeds website, 1 February].

The 28-year-old made 16 appearances in all competitions this season for the Clarets, 14 of which came in the Premier League.

Celebrating his delight at joining Leeds, Roberts shared images of him at Elland Road on Instagram with the words: “New chapter: Leeds United.”

Among those commenting on the social media post was Sheffield United striker McBurnie, who wrote: “All the best Pavel Nedved boy.”

Top signing

Leeds fans should be over the moon with the signature of Roberts, with the right-back set to help their promotion cause massively.

He boasts plenty of experience, both at club and international level, and may just immediately slot in at right-back under Daniel Farke.

Youngster Archie Gray has been hugely impressive in that role this season, but the arrival of Roberts may just allow him to return to his usual defensive midfield position.

There has been a lot of change at right-back at Leeds in recent times, with the Whites seeing both Luke Ayling and Djed Spence exit Elland Road in January.

The former has made a loan switch to Middlesbrough, with the latter now at Genoa after his loan deal from Tottenham was cut short.

Regardless, Farke now has a very strong squad at his disposal, one which should definitely be in the promotion fight come the end of the Championship campaign.

In other Leeds United news, there is hope for the reset of one Whites player as talks continue at Elland Road.
