‘Off the hook’, ‘Excellent outcome’ – Many Leeds fans react to Jean-Kevin Augustin update
The last we heard, Leeds United and RB Leipzig were still locked in a legal battle over Jean-Kevin Augustin.
Sporting director of the German club, Markus Krösche claimed a couple of weeks ago he expected an outcome in days.
He claimed there was a contract in place, meaning that Leeds still owe £18million – although there has been no update on that.
L’Equipe have shared on Monday, that Augustin is strangely set to join French club Nantes on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old still had two years remaining on his deal at RB Leipzig, so it seems strange that he is all of a sudden set to move on a free transfer.
The German club will have had to come to a mutual agreement with Augustin to terminate his contract early, something which would see them receive nothing only months after they could have picked up £18million.
This could be a result of them losing the legal battle with Leeds, who claimed there was a cut-off date in the contract.
Beren Cross shared the news on his personal Twitter account, something which saw Leeds fans flock to ask the important question.
Are the Whites off the hook now?
With Augustin not technically an RB Leipzig player anymore if that move goes through, many believe that Leeds will no longer have to pay £18million.
