‘Obviously from Orta’ – Exclusive: Pundit gives verdict as Leeds reportedly line-up summer move
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Middlesbrough centre-back Daniel Ayala would be a good Championship player but not a top Premier League signing.
Leeds have been linked with the player again with the Daily Star claiming they will move for him regardless of what division they’re in next season.
Robinson thinks the links to Ayala have come from director of football Victor Orta, who knows the player from Middlesbrough, but he believes Leeds must get their own house in order before identifying any external targets.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I think this is obviously from Victor Orta, that’s where this has come from.
“I’m not sure he’s a top Premier League player but he’d certainly fit in well in the Championship where he knows the league inside out.
“I don’t think Middlesbrough will be looking to give him a new deal as they need to cut their wage bill.
“He’s a decent player but he wouldn’t be a signing that would excite me if he came to Leeds.
“I do think it’s going to be a busy window for Leeds, though, but they need to know what’s going on with Jack Harrison, Ben White and Gaetano Berardi before they identify targets to bring in.”
Leeds fans will be hoping that they can hold onto Ben White after his loan deal runs out.
The young centre-back has been a revelation for Leeds but that’s put him on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs such as Liverpool.
Leeds have an option to buy Jack Harrison from Man City in the summer, while Gaetano Berardi is out of contract in the summer.
