Nottingham Forest make move to beat Leeds United to James McAtee in transfer twist

Leeds United must sign quality players if they are to build a squad capable of surviving in the Premier League next season.

Daniel Farke’s side finished the season as second-tier champions, pipping Burnley on the final day.

With the German set to lead the Yorkshire club in the big time, plans are already underway to secure the best talent at Elland Road.

Leeds have approached Manchester City about James McAtee, with the Citizens valuing him at £25million, but face competition for his services.

Nottingham Forest set to trump Leeds for McAtee

It is no wonder that McAtee is a wanted man.

City’s fringe player has been an onlooker for most of the season, but Pep Guardiola has afforded him opportunities in recent weeks.

Although he has been limited to mostly substitute appearances, he has caught the eye with some impressive performances.

The 22-year-old has seven goals in all competitions this season, scoring in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

Given that McAtee’s chances have been limited, it is unsurprising that Nottingham Forest are challenging Leeds for his signature.

Indeed, they are set to make a firm move for the midfielder and are currently ahead of the Yorkshire club in the race, according to James Marshment.

While there is no news of a concrete bid for the England under-21 international, challenging Forest will be a tricky task.

Leeds must do all they can to land McAtee

The Elland Road club cannot afford to mess around in the summer window and must do all they can to land their top targets.

Although Farke possesses a strong squad, he might have to do without Manor Solomon, who was on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Losing his creativity will be a blow, and if they cannot sign him permanently, then Leeds will need to find alternatives.

McAtee is the kind of player that the second-tier champions should be targeting, as he has shown his quality and possesses a high ceiling.

While Forest will provide an enticing opportunity for the midfielder, Leeds are more likely to offer him first-team football.

On top of that, the 22-year-old would be able to boost his profile and play in front of a packed Elland Road, with Cole Palmer the perfect example of leaving City.

Perhaps the ultimate decision will rest with McAtee, but Leeds must convince him to sign for the Premier League’s new boys.
