Norwich star Gabriel Sara on verge of £20m transfer as Leeds United pursuit takes twist

Leeds United look set to miss out on signing Norwich City’s Gabriel Sara, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 4 August (page 70) that the 25-year-old Brazilian is flying out to Turkey to join Galatasaray in a deal worth almost £20million.

It is understood that Crystal Palace and Leeds had been in pursuit of the attacker but Champions League side Galatasaray are now on the verge of striking a deal.

Leeds United had no chance of £20m deal

Even though Leeds have made at least £25million on their sale of Crysencio Summerville to West Ham [BBC Sport], there was no way that almost all of that money would be used instantly to sign one player.

Also, while Leeds are a massive club in their own right and have an infamous history with Galatasaray, that means little to a Brazilian footballer who no doubt would rather play in the Champions League than the Championship.

It’s a shame for the Whites because Sara is such a good player but it’s also no shock to see him head elsewhere this summer.

Leeds have a lot of work to do to find a replacement for Summerville.

He was someone brought in at a young age by Victor Orta and was nurtured by Marcelo Bielsa and Daniel Farke to become a really good first-team attacker.

You cannot do something like that overnight so someone ready-made for the starting line-up has to come in and we don’t expect anyone to be signed who’ll cost over £10million due to the Whites having one eye on PSR.
