Norwich City make late attempt to sign Jesurun Rak-Sakyi after Leeds United approach
Leeds United face late competition from Norwich City for the signing of Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, according to Edmund Brack.
The South London Press journalist posted on X (11 August) to report that after Jonathan Rowe pulled out of their matchday squad to face Oxford, Norwich made a late attempt to sign Rak-Sakyi from Palace.
United have reportedly made a £15million bid for the 21-year-old winger [Alan Nixon, 11 August], but this was rejected by the Premier League side, with Burnley another team ramping up their own interest.
Rak-Sakyi and Rowe have emerged as the Whites’ two major transfer targets in recent days with a £7m bid for the latter tabled to Norwich [John Percy, 5 August] – who have now joined them in the race for Rak-Sakyi.
Leeds United playing waiting game over Jesurun Rak-Sakyi transfer
Rowe or Rak-Sakyi remains the question on everyone’s lips at Elland Road, as the Peacocks scour the transfer market looking to replace the contributions made by Crysencio Summerville last season.
Summerville’s 20 goals and nine assists made him last season’s Championship Player of the Year, and replicating such an output will be a difficult task after the Dutchman made a £25m move to West Ham.
Rak-Sakyi in particular is a player who several Championship clubs have declared interest in this summer, and despite Sheffield United having seemingly wrapped up a loan deal [Nixon, 7 August], the 21-year-old is yet to move.
Rowe, on the other hand, is a player known to Daniel Farke from his own time at Norwich, but with the Whites yet to to improve on their rejected £7m bid, the German’s priority seems clear.
Wilfried Gnonto’s equalising goal against Portsmouth on 10 August gave flashbacks to Summerville’s trademark strike last season, but United still need more on the flanks and Rak-Sakyi may well fit the bill.
