Norwich City to lower Jonathan Rowe price tag after Leeds United bid

Norwich City could lower their asking price for Jonathan Rowe amid interest from Leeds United, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [7 August, pages 46 and 47] that Rowe is also being looked at by Tottenham.

Journalist Matty Hewitt touts Rowe as a possible cut-price wing option for Newcastle and adds Norwich’s current valuation may be lowered.

“Rowe is attracting interest from Leeds United with a view to replacing Crysencio Summerville and has caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur in recent months,” the report read.

“A Three Lions youth international valued in the region of £15-20m, Leeds’ opening offer of £7m suggests Norwich could be talked into lowering their asking price.”

Leeds United must pursue Jonathan Rowe transfer

The Telegraph’s John Percy first reported this week [5 August] that Leeds’ opening offer for Rowe would be in the region of £7million.

Given how highly Norwich rate the winger – rightly so – that bid is never going to be likely to get a deal over the line.

Some Leeds fans may argue that paying in excess of £10m for Rowe is way too much, but this is how transfers work.

Rowe scored 12 goals and assisted two more in 32 Championship appearances last season, so he is more than capable of performing for Leeds.

Indeed, Sky Sports commentator Andy Hinchcliffe recently described him as “outstanding”.

As we so often see, this is a deal that could go down to the wire should Leeds pursue it – as they should.

Other teams are clearly interested, though, so it may just be a case of tabling a second bid as soon as possible and hoping that’s enough.

In other Leeds United news, Willy Gnonto is supposedly willing to quit the club amid interest from elsewhere.
