Northern journo rubbishes Kaveh Solhekol claim about Leeds finances in new Jan transfer update

Leeds United do have money to spend this month but are unlikely to sign any new players due to their targets not being available, according to David Anderson.

The Mirror’s northern football journalist tweeted on Thursday to say that Marcelo Bielsa wants to add to his squad this month and the Whites have “identified targets” in three positions.

However, although Leeds have money left in their budget after a £100million recruitment drive in the summer, they are not expected to welcome any new arrivals because their “targets are not available”.

Anderson’s claim effectively rubbishes what Sky Sports News journalist Kaveh Solhekol said about Leeds’ transfer budget earlier this week.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday evening, Solhekol said “the club spent their transfer budget in the summer window”.

It seems that based on Anderson’s update, Bielsa does have some money after all.

Hold tight for better deals in summer

If Leeds want to improve their squad then they’re going to have to sign some very good players and who really wants to sell their best players in January?

In the middle of the season, it’s always harder to get good deals for good players than it is in the summer so Leeds are better off holding fire for now and waiting until the summer.

Signing players at the end of the season will also help Bielsa bed them into the squad rather than throwing them in straight away.

As seen with Jean-Kevin Augustin last year, Bielsa demands a lot of players who arrive in the middle of the season and Augustin ended up hardly playing and was sent back to RB Leipzig with just three substitute appearances to his name.

We don’t want another JKA repeat so if the Whites are going to sign anyone this month it must be someone like Ian Poveda, who was brought in as an Under-23s signing with the view to him breaking into the first-team.

Poveda has done exactly that so signing young players with a view to them featuring in the future is a better course of action than improving the current first-team.
