‘No way’, ‘This would be brilliant’ – These Leeds fans thrilled after £22.7m transfer update
Leeds United fans have been left excited by the news that the club tried to sign Eljif Elmas in the summer window.
Napoli’s 21-year-old central midfielder is a wanted man. Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach are all interested.
However, there’s a link with Leeds. Elmas is a North Macedonia international who played 90 minutes alongside Gjanni Alioski in the recent play-off final that saw the nation qualify for the Euros next summer – its first major tournament in its history.
The news – reported by transfer specialist Ciro Venerato Rai – claimed that Leeds and other European sides had bid £22.7m for the player.
He said, “Benfica, Leeds, the two Borussia of Germany and Leipzig,” he said. “These clubs even offered 25million euros for the player, but the blue sports director did not want to hear the offer.”
The 21-year-old started 12 games in Serie A last season after signing for Napoli for £15m from Fenerbahce.
However, he hasn’t started a game this season and could be getting itchy feet.
There are plenty of Leeds fans who would love to see the midfielder at Leeds – and it’s the one position that Leeds tried (and failed) to fill when the move for Michael Cuisance broke down.
With the January window approaching, these fans would love to see Leeds go back in for him again and some think Alioski could help out…
