Newcastle United stance emerges on Sean Longstaff exit amid Leeds United transfer interest
Newcastle United would be open to selling Sean Longstaff this summer amid interest from Leeds, but may be forced to keep him according to The Telegraph.
Writing on their website (22 May), the news outlet report that the player is in a “vulnerable” position as he enters the final year of his contract at St James’ Park and could be behind Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley in the pecking order next season.
The Magpies need to sell in order to be able to spend amid concerns about FFP, and Longstaff would be pure profit as an academy player.
But while Leeds have already shown an interest in a summer deal, Newcastle could be forced to keep him if they end up in European competition next season due to UEFA’s homegrown player squad rules.
Leeds United in no rush to get a deal done for Sean Longstaff
Daniel Farke will not want a repeat of last summer where transfers were left until late in the window, but there is certainly no rush for a deal to get done immediately.
All focus at Elland Road will be on the playoff final at Wembley, and plans for the new season will only be finalised after the game is done and the club know what league they will be playing in.
If they’re in the Premier League then this is certainly a transfer that they should revisit and take a look at, because he would bring great experience to the squad and some leadership too.

Midfield is an area of the squad that will need strengthening to go alongside Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara, Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu as options.
Longstaff would bring plenty of energy, a goal threat and a bite in a tackle too. If Newcastle are forced to sell there will surely be more interest, so Leeds should move relatively quickly to get a deal done, but for now all eyes must be on Wembley.
In other Leeds news, the club have been handed a major transfer boost as one Premier League club are open to 15 exits this summer.
