Newcastle hold talks over Crysencio Summerville at Leeds United as ‘significant’ update emerges
Crysencio Summerville has been subject of “recent” talks at Newcastle as they consider a move for the Leeds United star, according to The Athletic.
A report on the outlet’s website on 4 June indicates that the Magpies plan to spend a “significant portion” of their budget this summer on a right-sided attacker, with the likes of Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams also of interest.
Summerville, who won the Championship Player of the Season award last term, largely featured off the left for Daniel Farke but can also play on the right.
He is expected to leave Elland Road during the transfer window after the Whites failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League, losing 1-0 in the play off final to Southampton.
Could Eddie Howe beat Liverpool to Leeds United star?
Few at Leeds United will be glad to see Summerville leave after an excellent season where he scored 21 goals in all competitions, even if his end to the season wasn’t quite up to the same standards.
But it is a necessary evil after the club were consigned to a second season in the Championship, so the main question at Elland Road will be how much they can get for him.
Liverpool have been interested for some time and are thought to be battling Chelsea at the head of the queue for the young Dutchman [The Sun, 28 May].
But if Newcastle are ready to make a winger their primary outlay this summer, and Summerville appears to be a more viable option than the other names on their list shortlist, then the 22-year-old could perhaps end up at St. James’ Park.

With huge amounts already owed this summer on past transfers before any incoming business is done during the upcoming window [The Athletic, 29 May] it would be helpful for Farke if deals could be wrapped up for those who are going to leave as early as possible so he can concentrate on restocking his team.
The controversial big-money arrival of Red Bull should ease financial concerns somewhat, but it is going to be unrealistic to keep star men, potentially including teenage prodigy Archie Gray, in the second tier for another year.
There seems to be no shortage of interested clubs when it comes to Summerville so the Whites could do with a bidding war kicking off soon after the window opens.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to snap up a key target for nothing ahead of rivals.
