New Willy Gnonto contract now on the cards at Leeds United, clauses to be included

Leeds United are planning to offer Willy Gnonto a new contract despite the forward wanting to leave the club, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported on its website on 17 August that the club have made it clear the Italy international will not be allowed to depart Elland Road this summer and hope that he can eventually be integrated back into the squad.

It said the 19-year-old will be offered a new deal if he does remain with the Whites beyond this transfer window and that will include favourable clauses.

Plot twist

It would mark quite the twist if Gnonto did indeed remain at Elland Road and commit his future to Leeds by signing a new deal.

But that seems a long way off at the moment in time after he has made it clear he wants to leave the club and has been forced to train on his own so he doesn’t have a negative impact on the rest of the squad.

The Telegraph noted that the Italian is effectively on an academy contract with the Whites, so he would be looking for substantially increased terms to even consider putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reported on page 19 of its print edition on 17 August that Leeds have turned down an offer worth £25million for the teenager.

The fact that the club have rejected a bid worth that much money for the forward shows they are determined to ensure he remains in West Yorkshire as they look to mount a promotion challenge this season.
