Neil Warnock moots Leeds United transfer exits after playoff final defeat, ‘get the money in’

Neil Warnock has told Leeds United to “get the money in” for some young stars this summer so they can add experience to the squad after their playoff final defeat.

The Whites suffered a 1-0 loss to Southampton at Wembley, meaning they will play another season in the Championship next term and several of their top players are expected to be targeted during the transfer window.

And while appearing live on Sky Sports (26 May, 17:55) after the game, former Whites boss Warnock admitted that the club should look at shaking things up this summer after the defeat.

“I think they’ll let one or two go anyhow,” he said.

“I mean, you’ve got great players here but you saw the subs that came on. I don’t think it’s bad to change it around a bit when you’ve lost. I think they can be, like you said, a bit more experienced in there and they can let one or two of the young lads go, get the money in.

“I think it could be a good summer, for Daniel [Farke]. But it doesn’t take away what he’ll be feeling tonight in that dressing room.”

Leeds United have a decision to make in the transfer window

The summer transfer window is going to be a very difficult one for the 49ers to navigate now, as a lot of their leverage has been lost.

Getting back to the Premier League was the premise of a lot of top players still being at Elland Road next season, and that is now not the case which means new plans need to be made.

Young players have been the standout performers this year with the likes of Ethan Ampdau, Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville shining, but they could all now be subject to offers.

Warnock wants the club to cash in on a few of them and bring in more experienced head to push their promotion hunt, but replacing their quality in the second tier isn’t that simple.

The 49ers need to find a way to keep as many top players as they can while also adding experience to the squad, and Farke needs to find a way to balance it all next season.
