Napoli are interested in signing Leeds United’s Gjanni Alioski
Leeds United left-back Gjanni Alioski is a transfer target of Napoli, report Il Napolista.
The Italian outlet suggests the third-place Serie A side want Alioski as a potential replacement for full-back Faouzi Ghoulam.
The 29-year-old’s future at Elland Road is very much uncertain as his contract expires in the summer.
He was heavily linked with a move to Galatasary by Football Insider in March but there has not been a recent update on that situation, and Napoli could try and hijack the deal.
Upgrade time
We are thankful for Alioski’s service to the club and in recent weeks, despite intense speculation, he has performed really well.
Some may have doubted his defensive ability but he has played his part in good results against Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs recently.
However, it is no secret that the club is planning to sign a left-back this summer, with Nicolas Tagliafico [Vernoica Inside] and Romain Perraud [Daily Mail] both reported targets.
Left-back is arguably the weakest position in our squad, as neither Alioski nor Stuart Dallas are naturally suited to the role.
We need to sign a left-back, one who can increase our chances of qualifying for Europe next season.
If that means Alioski leaves in search of guaranteed football then so be it, though we would not oppose the 29-year-old remaining as a backup option.
After all, Noel Whelan has previously stated that Alioski has done “exceptionally well” at times [Football Insider], and that means he could provide strong competition for a potential newcomer.
