Nahitan Nandez ready to quit Cagliari to join Leeds United in record transfer
Uruguay midfielder Nahitan Nandez is ready to quit Cagliari and join Leeds United this summer, according to Unione Sarda.
The Sardinian newspaper claims Roma and Inter Milan are cooling their interest in the 25-year-old, opening a door for Leeds to smash their transfer record to sign the former Boca Juniors central midfielder.
It is understood that Nandez’s release clause at Cagliari is worth £30.9million and Leeds are willing to pay that.
However, Unione Sarda warns that this won’t be a transfer that’s completed any time soon due to Nandez’s participation at Copa America with Uruguay.
Will Nandez join Leeds?
Right now, we’re only really seeing updates on Nandez’s future and potential move to Leeds in the Italian media.
As of yet, the British media, and especially the local media, have not reported anything regarding Nandez and Leeds.
We’re not suggesting the Italian media shouldn’t be trusted but it seems like each day there is news about Nandez’s situation at Cagliari yet there’s nothing coming from English journalists about Leeds wanting him.
We’re going to err on the side of caution with this one.
While the Whites should strengthen their midfield this summer and Nandez ticks a big box for Marcelo Bielsa with the fact he’s versatile enough to also play out wide, he just doesn’t seem like the kind of player we’d break our transfer record to sign.
Sure, Nandez has probably done really well for Cagliari.
But would he be a top signing for an ambitious Premier League club?
We’ll wait to see if there are concrete reports from the English media before getting excited by signing the Uruguayan but right now, we’ll stay grounded.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa has left the door open for this former coach to return to Elland Road.
