Multimillion-pound deal agreed after Leeds United battle with rival for Taty Catellanos
Leeds United’s pursuit of Taty Castellanos against rival interest has resulted in a £25million transfer agreement being reached.
Leeds have been pursuing Argentina striker Castellanos since his days at New York City FC and he has recently emerged as a January option for the Whites again.
Daniel Farke wants Leeds to sign a forward above all during the current window, although a new centre-back could be on the cards as well.
But after competing with West Ham for a deal to bring Castellanos to the Premier League from Lazio it looks like Leeds will need to look elsewhere.
West Ham agree Taty Castellanos deal ahead of Leeds
According to The Times the Hammers have beaten Leeds to a deal for the 27-year-old, who has scored twice in 11 Serie A appearances this term.
West Ham have reportedly agreed a fee of £25m having been competing with the Whites for his signature.
Castellanos spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Girona and scored 13 times in La Liga, but made a slow start to life in Italy the following year with just four league goals.
He bounced back with 10 Serie A strikes last term before having the first half of this season interrupted by injury.
| League appearances 2025/26 | League Goals 2025/26 | |
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 17 | 8 |
| Lukas Nmecha | 16 | 4 |
| Joel Piroe | 9 | 0 |
| Taty Castellanos | 11 | 2 |
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is leading the way for Leeds in recent weeks, although his streak of scoring in every game since a second-half strike away to Man City at the end of November ended on New Year’s day as Leeds held Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin form can’t last
Farke and the hierarchy will need to move quickly to secure a replacement target in the goal-scoring department.
Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation over the past month, and while he is unlikely to go completely dormant now that his scoring run has ended it seems equally unlikely that his goals can power the side for the rest of the campaign based on his career history.
The likes of Terem Moffi, Josh Sargent and Troy Parrott have all been linked to an Elland Road move this month and the relatively positive atmosphere around the club since the unbeaten run got going should help attract targets.
But Farke has been left unhappy with key positions going unfilled on deadline days before so Leeds surely need to get their business done earlier rather than later this time around.
