MOT View: Leeds would have to table tempting offer as latest striker report could be promising

RB Leipzig forward Jean-Kevin Augustin has been linked with Leeds United as Marcelo Bielsa aims to sign a new striker before the end of the month.

The Athletic reported on Friday that Augustin, 22, is someone who has emerged on Leeds’ radar in the latter stages of the January transfer window but a deal could be complicated.

Augustin is currently on loan at Monaco and although he has only made two Ligue 1 starts this season, the French club is not too keen on letting him leave.

Monaco would have to terminate Augustin’s loan deal for him to go back to Leipzig before signing for Leeds.

Augustin himself is said to be considering his options but based on the report by the Atheltic, the ball is in Monaco’s court.

However, a new update by French news outlet Foot Mercato suggests that a deal could be achievable for Leeds, even though it sounds a bit complicated at this stage.

While Foot Mercato adds that Nottingham Forest – managed by ex-Monaco player Sabri Lamouchi – are also interested in signing Augustin, there is a way to tempt Monaco into letting the striker leave.

It is understood that “if an interesting offer” is tabled to Monaco, then they will consider terminating Augustin’s loan deal so that he can be sent back to Leipzig ahead of making his next month.

Leeds need a new striker soon because their efforts in the English transfer market have failed to provide any goods.

But this report on Augustin is certainly positive. It means that there is a way of getting this deal done, which seemed unlikely before.
