MOT View: Leeds set for potential transfer windfall based on Fabrizio Romano & Phil Hay claims
Leeds United are set to receive a boost to their transfer budget with former Elland Road ace Ronaldo Vieira on his way out of Sampdoria.
In January, The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported that Leeds included a sell-on clause when Vieira, 22, was sold to Sampdoria in 2018 for £6.2million.
Hay’s colleague at The Athletic, David Ornstein, also reported in the January transfer window that West Ham were interested in Vieira and that Sampdoria had slapped an £18.2million price-tag on the midfielder’s head.
Now, Vieira is reportedly on the verge of joining Hellas Verona, according to Sky Sports Italy’s Fabrizio Romano.
It is unclear how big a sell-on clause was included in the deal when Leeds sold Vieira and it remains to be seen how much Hellas Verona are paying for him.
However, based on the valuation of Vieira in January, you’d imagine that the fee would be more than what Sampdoria paid for the ex-Leeds ace two years ago.
All of this suggests that Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta will receive an unexpected cash boost before the transfer window closes.
While the club is reportedly closing in on a deal for Michael Cuisance, Leeds are also strongly linked with signing a new winger.
That extra bit of cash from Vieira’s move to Hellas Verona could help sign a winger who Bielsa will use in the Premier League.
Not many fans were happy with Vieira was sold in Bielsa’s first transfer window but as time has progressed, it has become more and more clear that was the correct decision.
And to include a sell-on clause was an absolute stroke of brilliance by Orta.
In other Leeds United news, this Leeds-linked midfielder has agreed personal terms with AC Milan.
