Monaco want to sign Leeds United star Illan Meslier ahead of Ligue 1 rivals Marseille

AS Monaco want to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier ahead of their Ligue 1 rivals Marseille, according to the Daily Mail.

Writing on their website (29 June), the news outlet report that the goalkeeper is wanted by the two European giants after the Whites failed to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Roberto Di Zerbi has identified the 24-year-old as his prime target [FootMercato, 28 June] for the position after taking over at Stade Velodrome, with Leeds demanding “in excess of £20million” for the shot-stopper [Daily Mail, 28 June].

Leeds United heading for an Elland Road exodus?

Every Leeds fan knew that the summer transfer window was going to be difficult to navigate for the Whites, but it’s already looking harder than some expected.

Archie Gray is set to join Brentford after completing a medical on Saturday night [Graham Smyth, 29 June], Crysencio Summerville is expected to leave [Phil Hay, 27 May] and Ethan Ampadu has been tipped to exit too.

Should the three of them leave plus Meslier, with added interest in the likes of Ilia Gruev, Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto too, it leaves Daniel Farke incredibly short on quality.

It seems as though there is an exodus beginning to take place and the San Francisco 49ers will be desperate to get some good news out to fans to settle their nerves about the upcoming campaign.

Champions League clubs moving for key players makes things very difficult as those involved in the deals will be keen to move on rather than playing second-tier football, but Leeds can’t sell everyone.

It’s going to be a very long summer at Elland Road.

In other Leeds news, the club are set to bank £40m for Archie Gray as a “hijack” verdict was dropped.
