Mohamed Camara head turned by Leeds United as direct contact made with representatives of Salzburg star

Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara has had his head turned by interest in his signature from Leeds United, according to Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Writing on the Express website on Tuesday (5 July), Taylor reported that Camara, 22, is “itching to move to the Premier League and would like to join Leeds”, who are in direct contact with the Mali midfielder’s representatives.

It is understood that Camara “was given permission to sit out of training and matches by Salzburg last week” but due to the lack of movement over his future, he’s expected to return to pre-season training in the coming days.

Leeds are pushing ahead with a move to sign RB Leipzig and USA midfielder Tyler Adams and if they complete a deal for him, it could put paid to their pursuit of Camara.

Another midfielder needed?

Would it hurt Leeds to sign both Adams and Camara?

Jesse Marsch simply had no choice but to strengthen the midfield this summer and the departure of Kalvin Phillips has only reinforced that need.

As it stands, with the arrival of Marc Roca, Leeds have him, Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Klich as their senior central midfield options while Stuart Dallas is also an option but he’s out injured until the turn of the year.

Jamie Shackleton, Darko Gyabi and Lewis Bate can also be seen as options but they’re unlikely to be handed senior roles at Elland Road next season.

If Marsch signs Adams and Camara, they’d have them two, Roca, Forshaw and Klich.

Out of those, the latter two are in their 30s and have either had serious injury issues or seen a drop in form in the last couple of seasons.

It might be too much of an upgrade to sign Adams and Camara. But if we had to choose one of them, it would be the Malian international.
