Millwall submit two ‘big’ bids for Charlie Cresswell, Leeds United respond

Millwall submitted two “big” offers for Leeds United man Charlie Cresswell this month, according to the South London Press journalist Richard Cawley.

Cawley wrote for the newspaper on Friday (19 January) that Millwall were unable to agree terms for the central defender.

The journalist added that the Championship club then turned to Tottenham man Japhet Tanganga, who they have signed on loan for the rest of the season.

“Millwall did make a couple of, what they felt were big offers, for Creswell, but didn’t manage to agree terms with Leeds,” Cawley added on The South London Press Football Pod. “Therefore they then moved to Plan B which was to bring in a really good short-term target.

“I think as well that one of the other factors is that Cresswell wasn’t pushing for a permanent move this month. I think what was probably going to happen was that he would do a loan and assess his options in the summer, but I’m not necessarily sure that was exactly going to drop the way that it needed to for Millwall.”

Bright future

Cresswell certainly has a bright future in the game, potentially at both club and national team level, but it remains to be seen where he will be plying his trade in the coming months and indeed years.

The young centre-back shone during a previous loan spell at Millwall, but it looks as if a return to the club is not on the cards for the remainder of the current season.

The fans certainly took to their loanee during his temporary time there, with Leeds fans also fully aware of the talent they have among their ranks.

But manager Daniel Farke has largely overlooked the young centre-back this season, instead relying on the likes of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.

He is, of course, well known to the Millwall faithful having spent a significant period there, but now those fans must get to know a new face in the form of Tanganga.
