Mikkel Damsgaard set to miss Sampdoria pre-season camp, Leeds want to sign him
Mikkel Damsgaard is set to miss Sampdoria’s July pre-season camp with Leeds United interested in signing him, according to Tuttosport.
The Italian news outlet claims the 21-year-old “will not leave for the Ponte di Legno meeting”, scheduled to take place between July 15-30.
Tuttosport report that Real Madrid have recently joined Leeds in the race for the Denmark international, with the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Juventus also in the hunt to sign him.
Damsgaard has recently finished international duties with Denmark at Euro 2020, helping to inspire his country to the semi-finals, where they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by England at Wembley.
He scored an unbelievable free-kick against the Three Lions, the second of his two long-range goals in the tournament.
Sunday Times football correspondent Jonathan Norcroft was one impressed onlooker, writing on his personal Twitter profile on July 7: “Damsgaard has been sensational so far. England can’t pick him up – and to get such pace on free-kick, from that distance, was brilliant.”
Damsgaard is a player in the mould of Raphinha, in that he is an exciting winger who gets fans off their seats.
He proved to be a real livewire for the Danes at Euro 2020 and he would considerably add to the quality in our attacking ranks.
The Sampdoria star could instantly challenge Jack Harrison for a spot in the starting XI while he is also versatile enough to play from the centre as well as the left-hand side.
His absence from their upcoming training camp is likely due to his exertions at the summer tournament, but it could also act as time for him to discuss his future with interested clubs.
In other Leeds United news, Danny Murphy has suggested that Marcelo Bielsa is wasting the talents of this Whites star.
