Marsch wants Mihailovic as first Leeds United signing, Montreal could demand £8.2m
CF Montreal could be looking for up to £8.2million for Djordje Mihailovic after the USA attacker was linked with a move to Leeds United, according to David Gass.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on 2 March, Forbes journalist Manuel Veth reported that new manager Jesse Marsch wants to make the 23-year-old USA international his first signing at Leeds in the summer.
MLS journalist Gass now reports that while Montreal want to freshen up their squad, they may require a big fee in terms of North American football in order to sell Mihailovic.

“Other rumours that we’ve heard sort of start to kick around over the last week is Djordje Mihailovic,” said Gass on the MLS’ Twitter Space on Wednesday [2 March].
“The CF Montreal number 10 was second in the league in assists last year second in the league in expected assist so had those high numbers maybe didn’t have the finishers around him.
“We’ve seen Leeds connected to him as well as English clubs in Newcastle, who of course had this new money come in with their new ownership, and Everton as well.”
Gass added: “I think it’s not a guarantee that CF Montreal wants to sell him.
“They’ve acknowledged they’re bringing in young players to sell, but you have to build around something.
“It’ll be fascinating to see how this plays out with Djordje and sort of as we step into this new sphere of MLS where these numbers are starting into the $8-11million range (£5.9-£8.2million) on offers for players like this.”
The Leeds Peacocks
It’s getting very American in West Yorkshire, isn’t it?
We’ve seen the San Francisco 49ers own a 44 per cent share in the club in the last six months and we’ve also seen USA international Brenden Aaronson strongly linked with a move from Red Bull Salzburg.
Ex-USA player Marsch is now our manager and current USA player Mihailovic is reportedly being sounded out as his first signing at Leeds.
Yes, the summer transfer window is a while away still and no, we do not know which league we’ll even be playing in next season for sure.

However, Mihailovic does look like an interesting prospect.
The former Chicago Fire attacker, who can play on the left-wing, as a number 10 or in the centre of the midfield, scored four goals and supplied 14 assists in 34 MLS appearances for Montreal last season.
He’s started this season well too in 2022 with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win against Mexican outfit Santos Laguna in the Concacaf Champions League.
Leeds need to sign a lot of players in the summer and will need to sign even more if they lose the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.
Mihailovic is someone who Marsch will no doubt know a lot about so we’ll definitely keep an eye on his progress in the MLS and North American Champions League in the coming months.
In other Leeds United news, one of Leeds’ players appears to have returned from injury as he’s been spotted in first-team training this week.
