Middlesbrough to upset Carrick in huge Azaz and Leeds transfer development

Daniel Farke has a busy summer ahead of him, strengthening his Leeds United side ready for life in the Premier League.

The German is looking at bringing in experienced faces, with the likes of Callum Wilson and Jamie Vardy linked with moves to Elland Road.

However, the Whites can also target the best players in the Championship who could be ready for the step up, one of which is Middlesbrough attacker Finn Azaz.

Farke wants Azaz at Leeds

In the way that Leeds have previously lost players due to their second-tier status, the Whites are set to be the poachers this summer.

There is plenty of talent in the Championship, and striking deals from lower down saves money for the sides trying to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules.

As Farke looks to improve his options, one man who has caught the eye is Azaz, after an impressive season with Middlesbrough.

The attacking midfielder registered 23 goal contributions across 45 appearances this term, causing trouble for Boro, who finished 10th in the Championship.

According to the Irish Sun (27 May), Leeds are keen on the 24-year-old’s services this summer, and he is rated at £20million.

The report states that Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is not keen on losing his star player, but having signed the attacking midfielder for just £4m 18 months ago, the potential £16m profit could be difficult for Boro to turn down.

Crystal Palace have held an interest for some time, while Bournemouth have also joined the race, meaning it will not be easy to get a deal done.

Azaz would be a great signing for Leeds

As Leeds prepare for life in the Premier League, this is the type of signing that would be perfect, gaining a player who is on his way up.

Furthermore, with Middlesbrough set to make a profit of £16m on the 24-year-old, it puts the favour on the side of the buyer by giving the Championship club an offer they can’t afford to refuse.

It won’t be an easy transfer to strike, though, with Palace being a big competitor now that they have secured European football for next season.

The Republic of Ireland international is originally from London too, so a pull back to the south may be tempting.

Nevertheless, Leeds will no doubt be able to make a promise of minutes and with a potential deal to be made, Farke has to see if his side can come out on top.

Carrick will not be happy, but Leeds will not care one bit as they would be landing one of the hottest talents in the Football League.
