Meslier uncertainty emerges as Leeds do checks on new goalkeeper signing

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke may have had enough of Illan Meslier at Elland Road.

The French star has been under serious pressure after several errors this season that have brought his status as the number-one goalkeeper into question.

The most outrageous was the blunder against Sunderland which cost the Whites two points in their promotion battle.

Farke may have to upgrade on the 24-year-old to have any chance to survive in the Premier League, if his side can secure promotion.

Leeds monitoring Liverpool star Kelleher ahead of summer swoop

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is a name that has constantly popped up when it comes to a potential replacement for Meslier.

The links refuse to go away and a report (18 March) from Give Me Sport claims that the Elland Road outfit have looked at the Irishman ahead of a move.

The report states that the 25-year-old would not be willing to play Championship football, so Leeds would have to secure a top-flight berth to have any chance of convincing him to move to Yorkshire.

Farke needs to ensure promotion to sign Kelleher signature

Kelleher would be a huge upgrade on what Farke’s side currently have between the sticks and would be a great addition for the Whites.

The Irishman has proved his ability to star in the Premier League when he has been called upon to replace Alisson and started most of the Reds’ run to the Carabao Cup final.

The race for promotion.

Given the fact that he is not willing to drop down a level, the Peacocks need to make sure that they do enough to get promoted in the final few weeks of the season, with Sheffield United and Burnley hunting them down.

Premier League football would allow Leeds to sign a totally new calibre of players, and they need to, considering the gap between the top flight and the second tier is at an all-time high.

The fact that Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich Town look set to come straight back down shows the difference in standards and the work that Farke’s side have to do in the summer transfer market.

If they are promoted, the Whites need to bring in top-quality additions and Kelleher would be a great start.
