Phil Hay shares what he’s been told about Leeds senior player exit with medical underway
Barry Douglas is on the verge of leaving Leeds United to join Blackburn Rovers, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Reporting via his personal Twitter account on Thursday afternoon, Hay claimed that the 31-year-old left-back is undergoing a medical with the Championship club ahead of a move.
Hay added in a separate tweet that Douglas is joining Blackburn on loan, but as his contract at Leeds expires at the end of the season, it seems as though this move to Ewood Park is permanent in the sense that he probably won’t play for the Yorkshire giants again.
Douglas has struggled for opportunities at Elland Road over the last year.
He was hit by injury issues in the Championship last term and while he was out, he was replaced as Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice left-back by Stuart Dallas.
Since then, Ezgjan Alioski and even Leif Davis have overtaken Douglas in Leeds’ left-back pecking order, with Davis playing against Manchester City earlier this month while Douglas wasn’t included in the squad.
We hope that Douglas is able to play more regularly at Blackburn, who have ambitions of doing what Leeds have done and returning to the Premier League.
Douglas has won promotion with Wolves and Leeds now. He has a reputation of being someone who helps teams get to the top-flight so that’s what Blackburn fans and manager Tony Mowbray will be praying continues.
We wish Douglas all the best at Ewood Park.
