Leeds United ready move to sign Juventus ace Weston McKennie - Fabrizio Romano
By Peter Lynch
Leeds are currently considering a move for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie as they look to strengthen their options in midfield, according to Fabrizio Romano.
In his latest column for the Guardian, Romano claims that McKennie is on Jesse Marsch’s radar, alongside Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.
Leeds have, however, had a bid for the Morocco man rejected, meaning all attention could now turn towards USA international McKennie.
McKennie the man to steady the ship?
The Yorkshire outfit are hovering dangerously above the Premier League relegation zone, currently sitting just one point off the bottom three.
But Marsch is doing his utmost to help steady the ship, and that has not only included merely delving into the transfer, but breaking the club’s transfer record to sign young striker Georginio Rutter to England.
Worryingly for Leeds fans, however, the club’s issues are seemingly not going forward, but at the other end of the pitch.
Only four sides have conceded more goals than Leeds this season. Two of those teams – Bournemouth and Southampton – are in the relegation zone.
But it may not be the defence that is causing the issue, with both Tyler Adams and Marc Roca in desperate need of some help in defensive midfield.
The duo are among Leeds’ most-used players this season, with much of the midfield burden on them given the club’s 4-2-3-1 system.
McKennie, although just 24 years old, has plenty of big-game experience, lining out for Italian giants Juventus in both Serie A and the Champions League in recent seasons.
And despite some time away from the starting XI throughout his spell in Turin, the USA star is now firmly back in the club’s thoughts with 21 appearances to his name this season.
The fact that he hails from the US may, however, prove to be a major advantage in any potential Serie A exit for McKennie, with Marsch already persuading compatriots Adams and Brenden Aaronson to Elland Road.
