Max Wober transfer ‘favoured’ as Monchengladbach financial state drops at Leeds United
Leeds United defender Max Wober could be close to leaving the club in the coming weeks as Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach are targeting him, according to Westdeutsche Zeitung.
The German news outlet reported that a move for Wober should now be favoured by the Bundesliga club as they seek a replacement for Nico Elvedi, who is set to join Wolverhampton Wanderers, due to the exit clause in his contract which was triggered by Leeds’ relegation.
It has been shared that a move for Wober would suit Monchengladbach from a financial point of view as a loan is possible, following the revelation from Daniel Farke on 22 July that Wober missed their game against Monaco due to an ongoing transfer situation.

Deal could be finalised soon
After his absence from Leeds’ pre-season friendly with Monaco on 22 July, it has felt like a matter of time until a deal materialises, with Monchengladbach always touted as the most likely team to seal the deal, as previously shared by Sky Sports.
This would be yet another loan exit from Elland Road due to the relegation clauses inserted into seemingly ever big-name player’s contract under the previous management of Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta, which have proved costly this summer.
While the club aren’t in a dire financial situation, losing so many players with minimal fees coming in will be damaging to their financial fair play record, as any money spent on replacements is not currently being balanced out.

The mass exodus from Elland Road isn’t entirely negative, as seen with fellow relegated side Southampton who are struggling to shift players this summer, but is still far from a positive for Leeds.
Wober was one player the club had hoped to retain this summer as they push for promotion from the Championship, but it appears inevitable that he will now follow other big names such as Robin Koch and Brenden Aaronson to the Bundesliga.
In other Leeds United news, the club have been given a free run at key target as transfer news emerges.
