Max Wober set to leave Leeds United as transfer demand emerges from Elland Road
Leeds United defender Max Wober is set to leave the club with Borussia Monchengladbach only ready for another loan deal, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist posted on X that the Whites are asking for up to £10.2million to sell the centre-back.
Wober spent last season on loan at Monchengladbach and the Bundesliga side would like him back, but have judged the price as too high and informed the defender of their intentions to re-loan him.
Max Wober transfer will push Leeds United into defensive market
All the signs point to Wober having no intention of ever playing for the Whites again, as shown by his willingness to force an exit on loan 12 months ago despite early suggestions he would be staying put.
A left-sided centre-back, Wober leaving on another loan deal could hamstring Daniel Farke’s side in more ways than one, with depth at centre-half suddenly looking very bare.
Liam Cooper looks all but certain to depart on a free transfer following 10 years of service, and though Pascal Struijk is Farke’s first choice at left centre-back, he has just returned from injury.
Therefore, the German may be forced to look for reinforcements in this area of the pitch if Cooper and Wober both depart, and the latter doing so for a transfer fee would certainly be of help in this case [Transfermarkt, 1 July].
Joe Rodon, Farke’s first choice on the right-hand side of defence last season, has made his loan move from Tottenham permanent, and adding a left-sided option to play next to him who, unlike Wober, wants to buy into the promotion project, would certainly be welcome at Elland Road [Graham Smyth, 1 July].
