Max Wober loan exit now on cards as Leeds United transfer news drops

Yet another Leeds United player could now leave Elland Road on loan as Max Wober is attracting interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to Kicker.

The German sports magazine reported on 23 July that the Bundesliga outfit would find a loan move for the Austrian centre-back “particularly interesting” as he looks to depart West Yorkshire this summer.

This comes after journalist Peter Linden claimed on his website on 13 July that there was a clause in the 25-year-old’s contract that would allow him to leave on loan, following Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Robin Koch, Marc Roca and Brenden Aaronson.

Frustrating

It’s got to be highly frustrating from a Leeds point of view to see that yet another player is about to head out of Elland Road on a loan deal.

Former director of football Victor Orta inserted these, quite frankly, ridiculous clauses into a number of last season’s signings contracts to persuade them to join the club.

While it makes no business sense should the worst happen – which unfortunately for the Whites it did – it also means that you’re not really signing players that are completely committed to the club.

You can’t really blame the players too much for exercising those options because they have been included in their contracts and they obviously want to play at the highest possible level.

But it will be infuriating to see another player leave on loan that would’ve had a reasonably high transfer value in him to provide more funds for Daniel Farke to spend. At least it’s going to be another player off the wage bill.

A deal looks likely to go through soon after BBC Leeds journalist Adam Pope tweeted on 22 July that Wober missed the defeat to Monaco due to the recent speculation around his future.
